Elizabet Sahtouris Workshop

Lisbet2_3 The Weekend of September 21-23, 2007 Elizabet Sahtouris, one of the most interesting and well-informed people you will ever meet, is going to be at Esalen in Big Sur California, giving a workshop entitled Cool Solutions for a Hot Age.

Make your reservation here.

Sahtouris, an evolution biologist and futurist, is also a world-renowned speaker and consultant.

I have found that conversations with her are enormously rewarding and inspiring.

She explains, "While humanity has cut its teeth on a dozen or more Ice Ages, it has never before faced a Hot Age. Everything about human life will change as the climatic disruptions advance. By learning to see living systems in evolution, we can learn nature's secrets of successfully coping with climate changes of the past.

Your opinion sought

Rank your choices for energy efficiency at a site provided by Senator Barbara Boxer.

Boxer "Last Tuesday, my first major act as the new Chair of the Senate's Environment and Public Works Committee was to hold a hearing on global warming.  More than one-third of my colleagues participated -- an unprecedented number -- each Senator offering his or her own ideas and perspectives about how we should deal with the global warming crisis.
Then, after the hearing, I was further energized by the feedback I received when blogging about the hearing on DailyKos, spawning a rousing discussion that drew more than 800 comments to my initial blog post.
Clearly, online and offline, from the halls of Congress to the keyboards of Americans all across our country, a growing bipartisan consensus is emerging to confront this environmental crisis head-on...so please, take just 60 seconds to rank your preferred approaches for fighting global warming now!"  -Barbara Boxer

11th Hour - New Film

The 11th Hour, a Leonardo DiCaprio film to be released in August, is not a portrait of a planet in crisis as much as an offering of hope and solutions. The film includes insights from over fifty of the world's most prominent thinkers and activists, including reformer Mikhail Gorbachev, physicist Stephen Hawking, and Nobel Prize winner Wangari Maathai. The 11th Hour ends with a call for restorative action through reshaping human activity.

Findhorn Conference: Going Carbon neutral

Saturday 22nd March, 2008 (7 days): Findhorn Foundation Easter Conference

The Findhorn community was recently found to have the lowest ecological footprint ever measured in the industrialised world - just half the UK national average.

Machine
The week begins by encouraging us to open to our creativity. Joanna Macy will lead a two-day exploration of deep ecology while Richard Olivier will lead a one-day workshop on Green Leadership using the themes in Shakespeare's As You Like It. We then transition in the second half of the week to look at the many positive responses that are already emerging from communities around the world.

Global Warming: A Time to Act

From the web site of Senator Dianne Feinstein

Senator Feinstein discusses her five-part package of global warming legislation at a hearing of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee on January 30, 2007 .

An international consensus has been forged: Global warming is real. It is already happening. And greenhouse gas emissions produced by human activity, such as the burning of fossil fuels, tropical deforestation, and agriculture – are the leading cause of that warming....

That is why I am working on a comprehensive package of legislation to reduce greenhouse gas emissions – the leading cause of global warming – from all sectors of the economy. Every business, home, and industry will have to do its part.

There are five bills in total:
